iPads to Acrylics

Before we pulled out the paints to create our acrylic paintings on canvas, our class created color sketches on the iPads. It wasn’t till I went back and looked at the iPad sketches that I realized how well the students had translated their ideas and compositions between the two media.

Actually, it would be three types of media. The first step was to plan out their compositions by creating pencil drawings in their sketchbooks. I told them not to shade, just to create line drawings. Next, we photographed the sketchbook drawings using the iPads and imported the photos into Sketchbook Pro.

For the last step we went back to the art room, watched a few Bob Ross videos for inspiration (mostly this one) and then generally made a mess of the room.. er, uhm, I mean, created acrylic paintings on canvas.

Below are a few examples, the ipad sketches first followed by the acylic painting on canvas.
